Hanoi Round 1 - Vietnam

Image
GOOD MORNING VIETNAMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!! Rocked up to our hostel at about 5.45pm after a very comfortable flight with 'Laos Airlines', flight was cheap but service and quality was not compromised! Very friendly staff and for a 45 minute flight we were given a snack box which had in it a lovely burger and a piece of cake with a refreshment of your choice! Unbelievable.  As we pulled up outside the hostel I sighed and said to Daniel 'uh look at this place, full of idiots!'. As we were checking in a bong sounded and a guy on a mic announced 'OK guys, its that time again, FREE BEEEERRRR 6-7pm' Suffice to say my mood quickly elevated! Tugging on Daniels arm 'Are we good? Grab some beer!!' We dumped our bags at one of the tables and sat down with 2 free beers each! ( I was fast approaching being one those 'idiots'!!! ) We sat there enjoying free beers for a good three hours, still hadn't dropped our bags to our rooms! Sat with three v...

Vientiane - Laos Capital

Image
Roads under construction brought us in to the capital of Laos 'Vientiane'.   Arrived kinda late so went for a drink to welcome us to the city and then had an amazing Indian at 'Namaste', honestly probably the best Indian we've ever had...including India in that!!   We had 5 full days here, which is probably too long, theres not much to do here but we have to wait here till the 15th, then we fly to Hanoi (Vietnam).   Our first day we took a stroll around the city and got our bearings. The Irish girls we had met way back on the slow boat were here so they invited us to sunset on a rooftop bar and dinner in a place called 'Sputnik'. We watched the sunset over the Mekong river and witnessed an outdoor Zumba class, all welcome, was great! Sputnik was full with a whole load of kids so an American guy eating there advised us to eat in a place called 'Rays Grille', its actually right beside our hostel! Well, he certainly did us a fav...

Vang Vieng - Laos

We took a bus from Luang Prabang with all the gang in tow! Arrived in at about 2 and checked into Chillao Hostel. Fairly wrecked from the early start we snoozed for a few hours! Found a lovely coffee shop then for a coffee hit called 'CafĂ© Eh Eh'! The rugby was on  (Ireland v Scotland) so we all headed to 'Garys Irish bar' for some dinner. After dinner, Aiden proceeded to tell Daniel some gruelling vivid stories about being a doctor and the cases he comes across. He went in to such detail that Daniel quickly announced 'Ok guys, Im going to black out now, then ill be grand' so Aiden advised him to lie down and raise his legs to his chest. It was scary but also in hindsight very funny! Signal wasn't great for the game as theres no such thing as 'Sky' in Laos so had it streaming and it kept freezing! Prob for the best as we lost! Craic was mighty though and it was a good laugh!  Headed then to the local nightclub 'Viva' where we ha...
